With over 45 years at the heart of the music industry, Russell Scott stands as one of the UK’s most respected and versatile figures in Classical Music and Musical Theatre. As an accomplished singer, vocal coach, musical and artistic director, and producer, Russell’s career is defined by a rare blend of passion, excellence, and dedication to nurturing talent at every level. Russell’s musical journey began early, recording two LPs as a cabaret organist by the age of nine—selling over 100,000 copies—and earning a place in the Guinness Book of Records at just eight as the youngest ever member of the Musicians’ Union. He has raised thousands of pounds for charities and continues to inspire with passion.
His teenage years were spent performing across the UK and Europe, holding residencies, and appearing on radio and television, setting the stage for a lifetime of achievement. A lifelong learner, Russell honed his craft through private study with leading teachers and institutions, including The Royal Schools of Music and the Sylvia Young Theatre School, and furthered his artistry under the mentorship of respected musicians such as Nick Powell, Neville Creed, and David Wilson-Johnson. As a singer, Russell’s credentials are extensive.
He served as a Director on the board of the London Philharmonic Choir, performing major works alongside renowned artists like Bryn Terfel, Renée Fleming, and José Carreras. Professionally, he has sung with the English Concert, Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, Maida Vale Singers, and London Voices, and has performed many times at the BBC Proms. His voice is featured on numerous film soundtracks—including Pirates of the Caribbean, Shrek, and Troy—and he has worked with artists such as Sir Elton John and Il Divo.
Russell’s work as a conductor and musical director is equally distinguished. He has led orchestras at world-class venues, including the Chan Centre in Vancouver and the Royal Academy of Music, and has worked on and musically directed recordings at the legendary Abbey Road Studios in London.
His production of Godspell in Concert at the Lyric Theatre on Shaftesbury Avenue went on to tour major venues across the UK. He has also served as Musical Director at Waddesdon Manor for their staff choir and headed up Every Voice Counts for Westminster City Council, helping to foster vibrant singing communities.
Internationally, Russell has taken Next Stage Choir on tour across the US, Canada, Sweden, and Austria, performing at prestigious events such as Major League Baseball games and concerts at the Berlin Philharmonie.
As founder of the UK Choir Festival, he has brought together choirs and workshop leaders from across the UK and beyond, with the festival’s milestone first international edition at the Berlin Philharmonie in 2025.
A passionate educator, Russell has helped countless students gain entry to top drama schools and perform professionally, including in the West End. He is regularly invited to lead workshops, masterclasses, and adjudicate competitions such as the Voice Festival and University Gospel Choir of the Year.
